Motorola Rep.

For the first time in my year tenure of selling Cingular, I was finnally able to meet a phone representative. Our motorola rep came in to my store yesterday and I was able to play with some new toys....these are all phones designed for the Cingular network in the next year.

V180 - All black with the external CID It's also tr-band with a speaker phone. Basically its the same as the V220 minus the poor camera with a color screen. Replaces the T720 in moto's lineup. Better late than never right?

MPX220 - Well, it was a silver version of what Verizon and Sprint carry(black). Crisp screen, with microsoft office 2004. Didn't spend too much time with this one.

V551 - Very nice!! Externally it looks like the V300 with the blue border. The r...

Any way to find out who's network I'm roaming on? It just says "Extended Cingular"

What is a preferred roaming partner?

You guys on this forum have been quite helpful. Thanks for everything so far.

Cingular Indirects

Can someone provide me with some information on Cingular indirects? Does Cingular utilize THE MOBILE SOLUTION as an indirect? Does cingular only utilize Exclusive Indirects?

Just curious... 🤣

Just signed with Cingular

I bought my GF a Moto V600 from Cingular with a CingularNation 450 contract.

She doesn't get service at her house. The Network is set to "automatic" on the phone. Is it possible that there is an ATT GSM tower she could gain access to if the network settings were altered? Or would "Automatic" already be taking care of it?

Cingular service in Philadelphia?

I'm looking to get out of my contract with TMobile due to numerous dropped calls, crappy upgrade policies, and a few other issues. Does anyone know how Cingular/AT&T service compares in the Philly area?

Extended Network Question

I just signed my GF up with Cingular with a national gsm contract and noticed a clause after the fact. It said that if more than 50% of the airtime is used on other than Cingular towers, Cing reserves the right to terminate service.

When a company invokes this clause, what happens? Is the customer still liable for early termination?

Also, the phone was purchased at a steep discount, would the dealer then be able to come after me for the full price of the phone? (I had to sign something saying I would pay full price for the phone if I cancelled early.)

Thanks

What is the best current phone or line of phones for...

A guy in his mid 30's who has spent way too much time listening to Metallica over the years and doesn't want to have to put a phone half-way into his head to hear the caller?

My current phone, the ancient Nokia 5165, has (knock knock) one hell of a speaker on the ear piece, but if I consider changing plans it has to go the way of the dinosaur.

A buddy of mine has a Motorola T720 he got around Christmas last year, and I can't hardly hear anything on it. I know it's been retired as an offering, but I just hope it's not representative of what's out there.

Thanks a lot,

Bryan

advice please on european compatibility

i travel back and forth to europe several times a year--mostly Italy--but some UK and Spain. I would like a phone an a compatible network here for the phone that i use there and here now (attwireless): z600. I also live in the Tampa area in Florida. That said, is Cingular a good choice for me. I have tried their help lines and emails but can't get a consistent answer.

i have sim chips for my european countries but if i put a Cingular sim chip in here, tampa, will the phone be functional.

thx for your help.

Explain differances between GSM and CDMA talk/standby time

Anyone explain this? I notice that GSM phones triple standby/talk times of CDMA phones. Why?

Looking up a cingular number

I am trying to find someone's cell phone number and I believe they have cingular, is there any sort of cingular directory of cell phone numbers. I went through conventional methods on the internet to find the number but came up short. Apparently cell phones are not listed in anyway yet. Could I go to the store and ask someone to do it? All I have is there name. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

What do you all make of this?

Recently ran into this little tidbit on RCRWireless. It's from an article about JD Power and Associates' recent survey on call quality in various regions of the country.

Cingular Wireless L.L.C. and AT&T Wireless Services Inc. dominated the bottom of the charts with each carrier managing to garner the lowest score in three of the six regions, including Cingular in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and North Central regions, and AWS lowest ranked in the Southeast, Southwest and West regions. Cingular did manage to post an above-average score in the West region, while AWS was below average in all six regions.

To Muchdrama or any other Florida reps

Do you guys know what is going on with the state of Florida? What happened to the network, and how long do you guys think it will take to get up and running again?

question for phonepimp....

regarding the problems experienced recently with the moto v600 on the cingular network
...general consensus seems to be evenly split whether this is a manufacturuer problem or a provider problem...in either case, can we expect current v600 owners with at&t to experience the same problems once the merger is completed???? hopefully, cingular will get the nokia 6170 and then it won't be an issue for me... 😁

Why would someone sign up with Cingular??

From what I am reading with the Cingular / ATTWS buyout why would someone choose cingular over attws right now. ATT has cheaper plans with 7PM nights and if I understand right all ATT contract will be honored by Cingular after the merger and ATT customers get the benefit of the Cingular towers.

So I guess my question is what are the advantages of going with Cingular over ATT?

I am out of my Verizon contract and have been with them for seven years and looking for other options. I live in Houston and am also looking for any info on GSM coverage here.

Thanks

Should I just Rollover & Renew?

My Cingular contract just ended, so I could look for a different carrier. I'm tired of my SE t616 and I'd like to try a flip-phone. Carrier is obviously wide-open, but Cingular has been OK. As to finding the right replacement phone:

I'm hooked on the Bluetooth headset
Don't particularly like the inch-thick Motos
Don't quite know if the RAZR wd work for me
Hated the Siemens interface
Really like the Samsung p107, but BT not offered

The reason I like Sammy is that it's easy for one handed thumb-dialing, seems very easy to hold, and it's a little thinner than the gonzo Motos. A GSM Samsung Bluetooth phone seems like my E-ticket .... if only.

BTW, during the past year I somehow built up 2400 rollover minutes! I just reduced my prog...

GAIT is gone

Hey all, just went to check and sign up for GAIT coverage today and it is gone from the Cingular website. If any others out there were planning to make the same jump, looks like we're out of luck :-(
