Motorola V710

All,

Ecko was the one who hooked me up with a v710, and as I have never really had a small cellphone before (migrated from a Samsung i600) the size of the v710 was not an issue for me personally.

However, I went to a Verizon store today to change my contracts and increase my minute plan and I held the VX-7000. If comparing the two solely on size, one might also call the VX-7000 a brick. The measurements of the v710 are spec'd to be (94mm x 49mm x 23mm) and the VX-7000 to be (94mm x 48mm x 25mm). If one were to calculate the volume of the phones, the VX-7000 would be bigger.

Just an observation.

I just sent Dennis.Strigl the Verizon Wireless CEO asking him for information on the release and letting him know just how much buzz is out about this phone.

Go ahead and let him know. Its just an email and doesn't cost you anything.

It really doesn't mean a thing (I saw for the new low-carb Coke 2 months before it hit the shelves), but if anyone wants to see it in the flesh, that same ad that was in the Wall Street Journal earlier this week is in the new Entertainment Weekly magazine on page 43. P.S. toyed around with the LG VX7000 in the V store today for about 2 minutes...impressive piece of hardware there.

i have some questions on the v710...

can you download and put games, programs (i.e. calander, etc.) on the phone via bluetooth?

what is the size of the t-flash memory card that comes with it and how big can it go?... also i heard a rumor that sd memory card was supported...is this true?

what is the price of this bad boy going to be?

I was just talking to our Verizon rep at work, and she said that they were planning on releasing the phone in 2nd quarter 2003. That is the only definite quote I've found from anyone, so Im really hoping that it happens. Otherwise, I'll have to get Verizon by August anyway, and then try to bribe someone to do an ESN switch for me when it finally does come out. 😛

I think this forum has offered everything it is meant to offer so far. I log on here now and there isn't anymore news that hasn't been said 4 or 5 times prior.

There is nothing new we can say about the "bells and whistles" of this phone, there OBVIOUSLY nothing more we can say about when it might be release (we've covered every date from yesterday till a year from now).

I think that the only thing left is the release of the phone, then we can talk about that. But until then...this forum is at a stand-still.

While I was purchasing the lg vx7000, I thought id spark up a convo, with one of the vzp reps, that was holding the v710 itself testing it out, well I got to talkin to him...and started askin him when it was goin to be released and the price, well he said he couldnt really tel me that information, but he could tell me "the lg vx7000 is a much better phone, he says motorola just doesnt have it anymore...and he said I was goin to be happy with the lg, cuz thats what he has at the moment and thats what hes goin to keep until the vx8000 comes out" well that was my experience while purchasing the vx7000, leave any replies on what you think about this whole situation and why this guy is puttin the v710 down so much!

Everyone knows about the corny v710 movie right? Now it said to be continued. Dont you think that once the final movie comes out, the phone will come out or it'll say the release date? There is a reason for the continuation. I dont know what that reason is but we'll find out when the second movie shows up.

Hey guys i saw this at the VZW website, i was wondering why the price for vid message will increase in sept, is this going to corralte with the release of any new phones/services?


Picture and Video Messaging - Airtime charges apply when sending, receiving or uploading messages to Pix Place. Pictures in excess of monthly allowance are $.25 each. Video Messages in excess of monthly allowance are $0.25 sent/received through 9/15/04. Has anyone signed up for Motorola Email updates before? I, presumably like many of you, signed up for the email notification from motorola about this phone. As of yet I have gotten nothing. Is this par for the course? Or can I take the lack of email from Motorola as a sign that the phone is not going to be out the next couple days?

There has been a great deal of speculation regarding testing of this phone, whether it is currently in testing or whether testing has been completed. Well, the answer is yes. It is currently in testing AND testing has been completed.

If you will recall, in an earlier post I had explained that new software has been distributed to VZW for the V710. Well, this is the latest (and final) round of testing for this phone. From what I hear, the older software from this phone was contributing to difficulties IN SOME MARKETS, including poor call quality and dropped calls. This did not occur everywhere, and that may explain why Ecko's phone had no problems with the current software.
