What is the port on the back of the phone for???? The one that is covered with the round grayish plug.

Sometimes picture id doesnt show and also the default ringer will ringer instead of ringer ID
Its weird but I'm sure it is normal. Sometimes the picture ID just show a red circle like its banned. I'm guessing you just have to restart the phone. But you dont really have to. It will go back to normal after a bit. And sometimes my ringer for all calls will ring instead of the specific ones i choose for people. So im guessin those two things happen normally to v710 users.. ok bye

Should I switch while i still have time.
Here is my situation. I have until December 30 to get out of my contract with Verizon, my Motorola v710 or both. I have been reading the forum listings as I bought the Motorola mobile phone tools thinking I could transfer my pictures to my laptop. It appears that I cannot and that the reason is that I have service with Verizon. Is this true? Here are the pluses. I use my phone as a modem and think that Verizon is the only provider to allow this functionality for 4.95 per month. T-mobile costs 20. per month and I could not find another provider for 4.95 a month. Also I got a very good deal on the v710 because I had left for T-Mobile and the manager cut a deal with me to get my business back. I paid $50. I travel a good deal and have...

Video Format
I was just wondering if anybody knows what kind of files this phone's video's are? I wanted to know if you can view the video's on your computer off of your TF card.

Lewisville, Texas Verizon Wireless Store???
Has anyone on this board sent their V710s to Verizon's Lewisville, Texac location to have their firmware updated? What was the experience like? Did you contact the store before hand? How long did the whole process take? Was there any fee? and what if any disclaimers (b/c the s/w verision is still in testing) did VZW remark? Thank you.

hs820 headset problem
i have been up and down this forum and do not see any other issue like this. when i press the button on my hs820 to activate voice dial it dials the last number i called. i do not get the option to say name dial etc...any help would be appreciated.
btw...tried paring it again and checked all settings are correct ie headset voicedial on and phone set to vibe/ring etc etc.

Results from Flashing
I flashed the VZW 8700_01.40.OR firmware to my v710 using guides from this forum. Tricky instructions, but if you follow ALL the steps, it works well.
I am very pleased with the result. No battery drainage problems, no audio distortion problems, no problems of any sort. Acura TL now shows Signal Strength, Roaming and Battery Status. The Bluetooth HS820 Headset works better -- phone and headset now ring on incoming call. Photos, especially in high resolution, are much better.
I wonder what keeps VZW from releasing this to their stores?

Unable to Charge
I've noticed a couple of times when I pluged my phone in to charge that it says "Unable to Charge". Does anyone know why that message pops up? If I unplug it then plug it back in the message goes away and it starts charging.

8700_01.30.8F File???
I would like to thank everyone for the much appreciated informative feedback that I have received on this site. I have one last question before I make my attempt to update my phone's S/W version... If the update goes array, does anyone know where I am able to obtain the original 8700_01.30.8F software in the event that reverting back to the original version is necessary? Thank you.

USB Cable
i am interested in flashing my phone with one of the available softwares. however, i need a usb cable. after looking at both vzw.com and motorola.com both offer the cable only with motorola's mobile phone tools kit - which i do not want to pay for the whole kit (just want the cable). then i looked to ebay and see a number of them on sale - but i would prefer not to purchase off of ebay (plus is it true some are only $2? - they dont seem to resemble the one that is a part of the MPT kit). i've heard that when flashing you need to use a cable that is able to charge your phone through the cable from your computer's power - none of these on ebay state whether they can do this or not. does anyone have any recommendations for such? thank you.

Picture Sound
Whenever you take a picture with the v710, you hear one of 5 selectable sounds - Really loud. I take a lot of pictures, and it's usually not good to hear 'CLICK QUACK HONK HONK' or wahtever with each picture. it's really loud, too. Does anyone know how to either reduce the volume of this sound (drastically), or disable it altogether? Help is appreciated. 🙂
