Motorola V710

I am switching back to VZW in December and was really looking into the V710. I have seen more negative reviews than positive for this phone. Mot supposedly worked out some of the bugs but that is still to be determined. Can someone please give an honset answer as to whether this phone is worth it or not? I plan to use the phone primarily just for phone calls and maybe the camera. In addition, I have had nothing but Mot phones in the past and always have had good luck w/ them.

How do you view the life timer on the V710?

I've been paying 4.95/month for whatever they call the insurance...loss, stolen, etc on my 270c.. I rarely take out any extended service policies, etc. Is it worth it on a phone like this?
Have anyone here actually lost their phone and had to get a new one w/or w/out the ins?

If you lose the phone I assume you have to pay full price..eg. 400.00. yet, paying 180.00 over three years is a lot of insurance

My 710 has not had any probs but I am still wondering when we will be able to file transfer using the BT feature? What is the story on this? I'd like to be able to transfer pics from the 710 to my Powerbook. When I asked a VZW sales kid and tech they told me, "It will NEVER happen, VZW will lose money!"

I just went to Verizon and got my 3rd V710 with the fixed camera, the box had the blue sticker also. This phone was special ordered from the warehouse and shipped FED EX. Anyway, they gave me the phone transferred all my contacts and off I went. When I got into the car I noticed that the keypad backlight wasn't working and comes on intermittently. Weird... I went back inside and they told me that a new shipment was coming in tomorrow. I guess I'll be on my 4th phone tomorrow evening.

i had a replacement shipped to me, just got it yesterday. my camera lens escutcheon came off so they replaced. cheesy, i suspect it could be, um, helped along with a fingernail...but i didn't, i swear, it just fell off...

i dunno if it's a vzw fix or a phone s/w fix, but i can play mp3's (as .mid files) now. previous one wouldn't, and i think it was phone s/w because the files transferred fine (via email, damn vzw still crippled bt & cable), phone just wouldn't play 'em. So now Boogie Chillun is my ring tone, and Dust My Broom comes on when my wife calls..cool huh

I got my replacement phone today and guess what it is a FRU however, it is a Brandnew FRU. This just means that Verizon took a brandnew v710, sent it to motorola to get the camera fixed/straightened out. So pretty much i got a brandnew phone. I also look at the life timer to confirm this and to my surprise the FRU said 0:00:00 😁. I also looked on the back of the phone to see if there was any residue from an old ESN sticker and there was none becuase motorola usually removes the old ESN sticker from a phone and replace it with a new sticker, which was not the case with my phone. So i am very happy that i didn't get a secondhand phone. There is no difference in the camera quality. Still the same old shiety photos. But i did notice one thing i...

Is there a S/W update or fix for the camera that ha bcome available? Also whe can i find special ed ringers.

I just got my MOTOROLA usb cable and install disk and transflash card.
Is the motorola not compatible with mac?
I am running OSX.2

Someone help me here....how do i install the program on my mac so i can up/download sounds and things?

The replacement phone had the same problem as the old phone. The camera is tilted and pictures are not clear. I called verizon customer service and they said it was not a brand new phone and it was refurbished. I also called a local verizon store and motorola and verizon said if you are within 30 days of purchase, you can trade in your v710 for a brand new one.
I have a question. If you get more than 3 replacements, don't they have to give you a brand new one?

although my battery has been great, I am still interested in getting an extended battery..because Im a phone fanatic.

but anyways, ive been looking around on sites and ebay and stuff, and was wondering if there were differences between OEM and Li-Ion? if so, which is better? Is OEM only the regular battery and Li-Ion the extended?

If anyone has the extended battery, please let me know how it works in comparison with the regular battery!

I had my Lexus LX470 into service and told lexus about the phone not ringing. They said that other customers have had the same issue and they got the new phone from verizon and it solved this issue. Has anyone else heard about this?

I don't recall. Does the Video also have sound? My New one only records Video!

Why is it that the Motorola RAZR V3 which is by far, a better phone than this [V710], does not get as much hype as the V710 did before it was released? Is it because it's a Cingular/GSM release? Is it the price? Can someone explain?

OK..help me out here. Is the V710 really that bad of a phone if I'm not planning to use BT? I'm up for the NE2 PLUS my company will reimburse part of the price of the phone. I'm really used to Moto's menus & such.

Need:
Big, clear display
Good speaker phone for occaissional use
Multiple numbers per contact (not the way the T730 does it)
Good voice recognition
Good handset volume for use in busy airports (I hate looking like I just walked off the space shuttle with an ear piece)
Obviously, good reception

If you guys steer me clear of the 710, I'm considering going LG 6100 since I don't care for the 7000.

Your expert guidance is appreciated. I don't want to be stuck for the next 2 years with a crappy phone again.
