my thoughts...

just got the phone today...

as far as the mp3 player, the phone will play mp3s, if you have a mini sdcard. simply place the mp3 file in the my sounds directory and rename it *.qcp

i managed to get the phone to play videos converted from my computer, which i wasnt too sure the phone could do.

i am pretty sure that when verizon releases the MOD service, the mp3 player will be downloadable, and we will understand the way the files will be stored on the phone, and card.

today was a very expensive day. full retail on the phone, case/car charger, mini sd card and reader.

MP3 Player

I have tried to look at the other threads but keep getting conflicting information. Can someone tell me if you can save MP3's to your phone that you already have on your computer? If not what exactly is the expansion card and the built in 512mb for?

Thanks

Phone should work great when 'officially' out

okay-
Per my CS rep (who really knew his $h!t), told me that those people who already have the phones aren't getting the full advantage of it until the official roll out. He said, since it was only a soft launch, not all of the features will be working that great. So, if you have the 8100, wait until (what we hope is ) later today for when the phone and all its abilities should be fully functional.

CAN'T TRANSFER PHONEBOOK!!!

has ANYONE figured out how to transfer your contacts from your existing phone to the 8100??? I've accessed the filesystem to put in ringers, but i CANNOT find where in the filesystem the phonebook is stored!!! Of course, i went into verizon to have them do it, but since its "not released yet" they don't have the "software" to transfer my phonebook from my 7000 to my 8100. Also, the guy said that he guesses that it will be another SIX WEEKS (sorry to spread another rumor...) PLEASE let me know if anyone gets bitpim working (WITH PHONEBOOK, not just filesystem) or if someone figures out how to put in a phonebook using the filesystem.

Driving Mode, VX-8100 have it?

I recently purchased the Motorola e815, and so far I must say that I am not really all that impressed with it, so I am hoping that they will let me exchange it for this phone, any suggestions on how they might allow me to do this? The main reason I want the 8100 is its supposed to have Driving mode feature which the 6100 has as well, which I hear works rather well.
Any thoughts?

Question about video recording

I noticed that you can record 15 second video clips - up to 100 of them!?!?!?! Anyone know if that is just a basic break-down of total time allowed to record video, like can you record 50 - 30 second clips, or is it limited to 15 seconds each? Thanks!

How sad

I was reading some FAQ's about the 8100 on Verizon's Website. They're trying to get people to buy a GetItNow application for people to sync their contacts with a computer. Give me a break Verizon. Good thing we can get around that crap.

What I dont get is...

why are mp3s enabled on the Moto phones (E815, V710) and not on the 8100 ? The fact that Motos play mp3s now doesn't really support everyone's argument that mp3s will come on the 8100 w/MOD. And acc to a vzw rep, MOD is 6 mos away, and I'll bet vzw will try to sell us a new phone at that time rather than enable the 8100. The 8000 didn't have a long shelf life before it was replaced...

To answer my own question, vzw probably limited the 8100 features so it doesn't blow all their other phones out of the water. (They sell 20 different phones for under $100.)Otherwise all vzw customers would buy 8100s, much to the ire of Moto, Samsung, etc...

So Im not holding my breath for vzw to ever turn on mp3s on the 8100, and I hope someone can h...

MP3 player question

So, does the VX8100 have a hidden MP3 player?

If not, or if not found yet, will it be EVEN POSSIBLE for people to hack this?
i was looking at www.cellphonehacks.com
and www.howardforums.com

will it EVER be POSSIBLE to play full length MP3's on the VX8100, or never ever ever, unless you pay through MOD?

...MP3 files, and the 8100...

FYI to all...

No one has said that if they put some MP3s on a miniSD card, and put the card in the 8100, that they could not access (play) those files...

But consider the following...

The 8100 has an expansion slot that accommodates a 512MB miniSD card... this must be to store MP3 music on... So it may already work just fine... Nobody seems to know, yet...

Even if Verizon attempts to lock users into their music download system, it probably will not work... After M.O.D. starts it will only take a couple weeks and we will know exactly how to store the MP3 files on the miniSD card so that they will play properly on the 8100 system...

This is not that hard to figure out, and no matter what Verizon does there will quickly be a hack...

LG-VX 8000 Cable/Charger

Noticed that nobody here has touched this *specific* subject, so i decided to ask.

Any former 7000/8000 owners finding that the data cable (and charger) from the 7000/8000 fits the 8100?

Oh, and if anyone wants to give in put on whether or not i should switch from the 8000 to the 8100, let me know!

I still have a couple of days left to do it..

main thing i don't want to lose is the camera pic quality, power of the speakerphone..

And does the 8100 have a flash? I didn't see one.

Thanks,

The_Machine

8100-Can you answer/end a call without opening flip +camera settings Question

Can you answer and end a call without opening the flip on the 8100?

Does anyone know if there are numerous camera settings like on the 8000? I know there's no macro flash and that the screen is crisper on the 8100. Just wondering about whether you have as many options to play around with the settings. Thanks!

Battery??

How is the battery life on this phone? I currently have the 7000 and that battery will last me 2 days with no problems. Does the 8100 compare or at least last for a full day with no problems. Thanks in advance.
