Got it coming to suburb of Detroit!

More good news! I'm from a suburb of Detroit, MI and called telesales directly and got ahold of someone who was finally able to order the 8100 for me! First said phone was not officially released yet, but I told him others have already ordered. He checked and sure enough was able to add it to the order. It's supposedly coming from the WH in Tennessee.

On a side note, I tried to order the data cable, but he said only a universal LG data cable was available at this time. Not sure if that one will work with Bitpim or not so I'm just gonna wait on that.

ringtones

anyone that already has the 8100. have you figured out how to add ringtones this phone yet. im using bitpim and i tried writing files to the my ringtone section, however everytime i checked the phone for the songs that i wrote to it they are no where to be found. the memory of the phone shows that the space is being used. bitpim says they are there as well, but they are hidden in the phone. and we all know that you cant assign my sounds as ringtones. and lastly im not going to pay for a bunch of ringtones so that i can overwrite them with bitpim to the ones that i want

Released

Phone was in a Verizon Store on display and for sale today in Orange Coounty, NY. It is one big ugly, clunky phone.

EV-DO over bluetooth

Does anyone know if it's possible to use EVDO connection over bluetooth? I know you can use regular dialup profile, but that's too slow.

Headset??

VZW recommended the Moto HB850. The HB820 seemed to have a higher rating. Any info on the H500? Thanx. 😎

SW Virginia area...

This section of Virginia is not an EV-DO area I realize. What I am wondering is, does that mean this phone is doomed for delayed release for this area? I am probably just going to wait and check again on Friday, but has anyone had any luck here?

Visual comparison of 8100 and E815, better built?

I have owned the E815 for a week or so and have been avidly reading the forums. I have been quick to temper some of the lunacy by basically saying that both phones are feature rich and for the most part comparable. The more that I read the early 8100 opinions, the more curious I became as to whether I had the best available phone. I am coming from a LG 4400 which served me well for a couple of years and the E815 is a nice change of pace and has a few more up to date features which make it worhtwhile for me.

There was one comment that has been sticking in my mind that alot of 8100 owners are bringing up and that is the build quality issue. I am not sure if I would trade what I consider to be a better screen on the E815 for a "better ...

Camera / Camcorder issues

I purchased this phone yesterday.

I have been having some issues with the camera and camcorder features.

In the closed position when I activate the camera, sometimes when I take a photo the phone gets stuck in the "Please Wait" mode. I need to open and close the clamshell to get out of it.

Also, when I activate the camcorder feature, sometimes I get a black screen with lit pixelated dots on the screen. I need to end the session and restart the camcorder to get it to work.

Anybody else have these issues with their phone?

My review of the 8100 (some e815 info)

Well, I must say I have been won over by this phone. I have never been a fan of LG in the past but this phone is a new beast. The phone has a great look, a great feel, and great features. No more is the LG the bulky, boxy, flimsy feeling, cracker jacks box phone I used to consider it. I bought the Motorola e815 just yesterday but upon seeing this phone I had to switch. The e815 did have some advantages such as a more versatile speakerphone, better looking menus and a bigger screen but not enough advantages to make it a better choice. That is saying a lot since I am a moto lover...well the older ones anyway...not the flimsy tinker toys they have been putting out lately. I pretty much worshipped my Moto V300.

PROS:

Build - The VX8100 ha...

GREAT NEWS FOR WASHINGTO DC FOLKS

YES, the Vx 8100 IS released for us lucky folks! However, stores that I've been to do not have test phones out... I didn't ask if they had them in stock, but I did ask about the release date and they were clueless.

HOWEVER, I called 611 and usually, they will say they have NOTHING on the phone. HOWEVER, today, I said I have a question on the LG Vx 8100. He said hold on... brung up the page.. and said, what do you need? Now, he BRUNG UP THE PAGE! I knew, by that, that the phone was out... but I asked ANYWAY. To my surprise, he said YES, it is out.

THEREFORE, stores might not have them until the 15th, but you better jump on the 611 bus because they're selling them to us over the phone. You get the same in-store benefits, so no worries.
