So, what's the whole point of the "My Sounds" folder, anyway? You can't save them as ringtones, and why would you want to listen to some crappy quality midi files, i.e. train, rainforest, Beethovens Fifth (the stuff that comes with the update)?

Also, when you put movies or tv shows on your minisd card, do they go into the My MP3 folder or somewhere else? I assume they'll just show up there as .3gp files, or whatever they're called.

I just ordered this phone for my girlfriend and have a few questions:

- why do you need a data cable if there is a SD card (for contacts only?)

- where do u get the data cable (if needed)

Can this phone use bluetooth headphones? If not -- does it come with regular headphones?

I totally forgot to check this when I was at the store, and I don't see it in the manual, nor do I find it on the forum.....

Ok, other than the “missed call” telephone icon thingy, how does the 8100 notify me that I’ve missed calls? My dinosaur Audiovox 9500 flashes a “green light”, so I know that I’ve missed calls while I was away from the phone.

Also, as far a the text “missed calls” message, will it just say “missed calls” or will it display the number of missed calls—“03 missed calls”?

I just got the update. Now, my bluetooth headset won't pair with my phone. What happened? Did the software mess up? Is it the phone? Please help.

Can anyone give me the proper steps on transfering mp3s to mini sd? I have been doing the following: format mini sd while in phone, move mp3s from pc to card, play on phone. Is this right?

But for some reason I sometimes get an error message when I go to transfer the files from pc to the card - corrupt file or read only folder. I made sure the mini sd card is unlocked. Then when I format again and even try formatting the card on the pc it works fine.

Any help would be appreciated!

I know its posted how to convert mp3's to ringers and use Bitpim to change ringers.

My question, is this the only way to get mp3 (true voice/sound) ringers on phone (other than buying through GetItNow)? Hacking the phone, essentially?

I do have the 8100, and I do like it, but I am still debating taking it back for 815, because I would rather not hack the phone, and my understanding is that with the 815 you can send files to the phone and change to a ringer. Also does anyone know more about the media player the 815 is supposed to have?

I'm still trying to decide bewteen the two phones. Seems like you posted some good information on what influenced your switch.

Other than the Mp3 thing & the battery? What else did they fix?

thru a bit of trial and error, i discovered the max length for a song name is 47 chars (including the .mp3)...

otherwise, your songs disappear...

Is there a way to delete "Quick Text Msgs"?

Everytime I use the voice command "Voicemail" thing using my bluetooth or speakerphone it prompts me to ask for a password. But when I hit #1, I did the pause/wait and then the pwd. How do I get the voicecommand one to use the password, where do I enter it. Does anyone else have this problem?

I just got the midi sd card and I'm having a hard time getting MP3 files on the phone. I have a mac computer and I think thats the problem because I tried putting files onto the card with my friends PC and it worked great. I trying now with my computer and no luck. I have been told to change the file name to .qcp or .mid. With my friends computer the .qcp worked but what about on a mac? Which one is it? Any Mac users out there that have any ideas? Thanks

VX8100 EVDO (3G) DUN will not work after the v.04 update is installed.


(1x DUN does still work.)

I upgraded to v.04 and found this out the hard way.
However I was lucky enough to find a VZW store that still had an old v.01 phone I could exchange my v.04 phone for.

Good luck. If you hurry you might be able to find one too.

PS:Apparently boxes with v.01 phones do NOT have a blue sticker on them. (v.04 boxes do have the blue sticker). This may be worth mentioning during your hunt.

Hey, I just recently got my mini sd card even though I've had the update, and now that I have it fully working after programming it in the phone before adding songs on it I have a question. Anyone not impressed with the volume on the player? I have noticed that my speakerphone and ringer that i downloaded a while ago from VZW Tunes are much louder. I also got a pair of stereo headphones from my friend, the ones that come for free with the vx8000 to be exact and the sound wasn't very loud in them either. I am afraid if I am using it in public with the headphones, If I am in a crowded area the songs will be very dull sounding. Anyone else hear of this or experience it? or could it just be my phone and I need to go get a new one? Also could it ...

1. MP3 player is great! I have no problems with the sound at all! Very loud for your own personal use! Very nice stereo sound.

2. For all you crybabies, you can also now turn the "disco lights" off.

3. New opening and closing animations, but heck who turns off their phone!

So the memory on this phone is only restricted by the size of the biggest memory card on the market? I am assuming that the 1gig is the biggest. I am wondering will the 2gig work in the phone. Hopefully. Any thoughts?
