Deciding whether to keep it or not

I have had the phone for a week and can’t decide if I like it enough to keep it. I am thinking about turning it in for a razor. Few things that make me want to do this:
Phone is kind of uncomfortable to talk on, not sure if I am going to get enough use out of the internet to pay an extra 40 dollars, I am use to a nice simple phone this seems more complicated then I really need, lastly lack of customization without buying 3rd party apps. What I love is the look of the phone and the screen.

On the fence between the two phones any input to lean me one way or another?

over in the "Review: Motorola Q" discussion:

Best accurate review to date- The "Q" gets a F

I was pleased to see someone actually critique the Q as it should be and not just join in the hype. Ditto on the user unfriendly keyboard and scroll device, they ruin the Q, as does the funciton buttons atop the keyboard that are not raised but flat and surrounded by plastic line seperaters that get in the way when pushing these in(very poor design), as well as the navigation in the middle which is difficult to use the down function because of the plasitic round unit that is used as opposed to seperate buttons. I have had my Q to test out since 6/2 and can say without a doubt that it is going back. $45 per/mo unlimited DATA PLAN THAT YOU MUST HAVE IN ORDER TO USE WEB BROWSER(OR .015 per/kb if you want $1500 phone bills), NO BRIGHTNESS CON...

do those silicon cases fit w/ extended batteries?

Want to know from those of you who have those silicon cases - do they still fit on the Q if you're using the extended battery?

Any problems with them? We'll probably get a "clear white" one.

Question

I recently won the Q so I decided to activate it. I was previously using the LG VX9800 and had no problems what so ever. I do not have internet and mainly use the Q to text and make calls. My battery has been half full when going to sleep and wake up not having used it and the battery is dead. Is there something to turn off or what? My LG could go 2 days without having to charge. I'm a little skeptical about keeping the phone ... Any advice?

Gmail POP Issue

Great forum and this was the first place I've come to looking for help.

I've got Gmail set up for POP access and have my Q all ready to check for new messages every fifteen minutes, but often, it doesn't seem to check, or, if it checks, doesn't seem to notice new mail.

Anyone else heard of this, having this issue, or have any ideas?

On my 2nd Q and Battery Life is still Dismal.. What Gives?

Guys,

My stand-by (non-talk, non-internet) battery life stinks... I'm not getting 24 hours before this thing is fully drained, and that's with ZERO use.

WHat is everyone else seeing with respect to battery life?

How do I dial letters in automated phone systems?

I'm trying to figure out how to dial letters when calling into automated phone systems, such a as searching for a last name on a phone system. Since the number keys on a regular keypad have corresponding letters (e.g. #2 is A, B, C - #3 is D, E, F), how do I get the "Q" to dial the correct letter without memorizing the scheme? Since the "Q" keyboard's numbers don't list the corresponding letters, this is difficult. Also, I pressing the letter on the keyboard does not correspond to dialing a number for this purpose (e.g. dialing "K" is not the same as pressing the "5" key on a regular phone. Using the ALT key does not make this happen either. I can't find the answer in the manual, and the local Verizon store people can't figure it out either....

Battery life and other tips available on Motorola's site

www.motorola.com

search for the q and on the left of page are some links, see link for tips and tricks,

tells how to maximize battery, shutting down apps easily and screen etc.

Also, does the data plan support Broadband access to the net or are we using peak minutes?

can't get the flap to close and hold in my SD card...?

after fighting to open the flap covering the sd slot, i can't seem to get it secured in place. is the card supposed to click in or engage somehow or does the rubber piece hold it in. when i replace the rubber flap over the card it is significantly bulging and i don't think it will even work this way.

how do i get this thing to stay in? surrender and bring it in to a vzw rep?

thanks.

speaker volume seems low??

anyone else feel that way, that the speakers are really low on this phone. I had a LG-VX8100 and that was really loud, this phone seems like its really low. Is there a way to tweak it and make it louder?

Wireless-sync and Outlook Sub Folders

My Outlook at work is configure to use Exchange (withOUT a pst) and I have rules that auto-move certain emails to sub-folders. Does Wireless-sync still send the email to the Q from these subfolders? Or does anyone know of a 3rd party software that does?

I have yet to get the Q, haven't decided between the Q or 700w or 700p. Still up in the air about it.

Data Usage

I was wondering if anyone has limited data with their Blackberry. I am looking to find out if it is worth going with a 10 MB data plan versus an unlimited data plan. Can someone give me an idea of what 10 MB will allow in a month without going over?

Thinking of a Q--e-mail questions

I'm thinking of getting a Q. I use my phone a lot to access AOL e-mail. I tried a Q at the store and kept getting AOL messages saying the browser wasn't supported. There was an option to download new software, but I didn't want to do that on the store's phone. Does anyone use the Q for AOL e-mail and does it work smoothly? Also, does the Q allow you to save your AOL screen name and password so you don't have to enter them every time (my LG 9800 has a software bug and this feature doesn't work)? Finally, I'm trying to decide if I need the unlimited data plan. Is there any ballpark way to estimate how much use you get from one of the more restricted data plans--how many e-mails can you read, for example? Thanks for your help!

Master Reset!!

I found out the hard way that installing and removing a program can damage other programs on the Q. I installed a trial version of PTAB and then removed it. After doing this the spreadsheet viewer would no longer work. I use Goodlink and it has a viewer that allowed me to view spreadsheets that were attachments to messages, but I couldn't view ones on my storage card, got a message that I was missing some required libraries.

SOOOOO, I had to master reset to get the software back to original condition, reinstall Goodlink and set up all personal preferences from scratch.

Beware!!
