Phones w/ better QWERTY keyboards

The review was pretty indepth, but in a couple of places they make mention of the Q's keyboard not being up to the standards.

In closing they even say the Q is not for people who need to do a lot of emails and text messaging from it, more for the casual user. But they lack comparisions to what they consider better QWERTY phones.

I don't have QWERTY phone today, but I am interested in getting one soon. I've been going back and forth in my mind between the Treo devices or the Blackberry's and I've been waiting on the Q but it seems I should pass on it because I will need it for heavy email. Is there better options I should consider and why?

solution to selective contact sync problem

there was a few threads of problems where the sync takes all contacts-- have 100's in the outlook business but dont want them all on the phone. if you go to the push synch setup webpage and log in under your account (https://www31.wirelesssync.vzw.com) there is an option where you can choose to synch only contact from certain categories

hope this helps

2GB TopRam Mini-SD for $56.57

This is the cheapest I've found so far from a reliable company. I decided to purchase the TopRam over the SanDisk after reading that the TopRam is a much faster mini-SD. The website is:

Oh and the $56.57 I paid included shipping!

Worry Free Guarantee

How many times can you switch phones? I picked up the Q but not a fan of the interface. Was going to try the 700w, but if I don't like that would just go back to using a regular phone.

Want to trade ext Battery for regular?

IS anyone interested in trading a brandnew extended battery with cover for their regular battery? I just bought one 2 days ago, but prefer the thinner battery. Let me know.

Voice Recognition Question

Just purchased the Q today. In fact, just ported my number from TMO to VZN today.

I'm trying to use the voice recognition feature and having quite a few problems with it. Actually, it hasn't worked at all yet.

I press the VR key, say call then a 10 digit number. It repeats the number and I answer Yes if it is correct. But the system doesn't seem to understand Yes and either will continue to rattle off other numbers or simply flip me back to the start page. The same happens when I try to say a contact name. BTW do I need to say the name Last then First since that is how they appear in the list?

Any suggestions?

Recieving a call while the keypad is locked

I've noticed that when someone calls while the keypad is locked, the phone lights up once, but then quickly shuts off the screen. It does this so fast that you don't even have enough time to see who is calling. Even when it rings again, the screen stays black. Is there a way to change the timeout for this so that you can see the number/name of the person calling while the keypad is locked?

Sync with USB port

I had the sync through Active Sync and the USB port working. Then I set up Bluetooth after many tries and it is working. Now when I go back to syncing through the cable it will no longer connect. What went wrong with the cable sync?

found a software bug - messaging

Found a small bug.
If you have a POP3 account set up on the phone and you try using Voice Commands to initiate a text message - the phone will most likely bring you to your POP3 account rather than the text messaging interface.

It seems as if the phone will only bring you to text messaging from the voice commands if you left the messaging interface in the text messaging mode. If you were doing anything other than text messaging (ie: checking your POP3 account) when you were last in the messaging interface - the "send text message to..." voice command will attempt to insert that person's mobile phone number into the address field of a new message from your POP3 account. Then, you get an error message when you attempt to send the message...

Video and Pics on the Q...

So I'm about to finally get this phone but then I was fiddling with it at the verizon store and noticed the pics and video are so small. It doesn't take up the whole screen like other phones. Is it supposed to be that way or are there options to change that?

Q fans, good news: it'll cost $50 and have UMTS by 2007

Quoted from Engadget:

"For those Q fans in the audience, we've got some good news (especially if you haven't made the jump yet because that $200 price point is still a little high, or because you just can't bear the thought of switching to Verizon). Apparently Ron Garriques, Moto's Executive Vice President, Mobile Devices Business, told Bear Sterns that the Q's sales performance can be compared to the steep, successful initial launch of the RAZR, and that they not only hope to drop the price to $50 after carrier subsidy by the end of 2006, but they'll be launching a UMTS version when Verizon's exclusivity contract on the device ends (as we've been expecting). Yeah, that'd be the same UMTS version that it was supposed to be around from the...

System Admin txt confirmations... make it stop?

👀
When I send a txt msg, I always get a "system admin confirmation msg". How can I turn this off if its possible? All it does is confirm that the message was sent. And am I getting charged for a txt msg when this thing is generated?

Other than that... I love the phone.

Question About USB Charging

I've been charging my Q in the car with a 4' USB cable that connects to a USB/cigarette lighter charger. I do this because I've got a dedicated outlet in the back seat that reaches easily to the front and don't want the to use the actual cigarette lighter, which requires keeping a sliding tray open and is unseemly. Anyway, this configuration worked just fine with my 8100 and 6700 PPC and charged the battery just fine, but it doesn't seem to be charging the Q. The little display in the corner changes from battery to the power cord, but I don't get any additional bars of power, even when driving around for what should be enough time to do so. Any ideas?
