Motorola Q

im a little dissapointed in the Q I thought the scroll would work the same as the wheel on the BBerry . I like it but i seem to keep attempting to tap the sreen .. i sold m treo 700w for this and i think i might let this go for the 700p.i have2 weeks to return. The internet doesnt seem as fast as the 700 and the fat that the phone doesnt return to home screen bugs. If i go to contacts and then make a call end the call and surf the net or sumthn., when i go back to contacts i have to back peddle out of the last name I looked up,. Thats irritating, it really bugs me and i feel the soft kes should have been made with more touch and feel .. 😢

I just downloaded "PocketCopy" in order to transfer my Palm calendar to Outlook (I had an old version of Palm)

The copy process worked great, and I've now been using the calendar for a few hours.

Here are some issues I've noticed in my short time using it:

1. You must use "ALT" key to enter numbers, even in fields that only accept numbers (ie: Date / Time)

2. When you are viewing / editing a calendar item, you hit the "end" key or "home" key when you are done and it takes you back to your desktop. Then - if you have a scheduled item for today or tomorrow - it shows up at the bottom of your "home" screen.
If you later click on this schedule item - it does NOT bring you to this item - but rather brings you back to the item that...

Does anybody know how to get Yahoo Messenger ont he Q?
I went via the web browser to download it but got routed to a verizon page that instructed me to use "Get It Now" to get messenger (the Q doesn't even have "G.I.N."

Any ideas?

The review in the WSJ today (6/7/2006) compared the Q unfavorably to the Treo 700p. They made the following critiques of the Q:
(1) They tried reading e-mail with attachments, and the attachments did not show up.
(2) Keyboard hard to use because of rounded keys.
(3) Took more keystrokes to get things done, often taking 2 or 3 keystrokes to do things that the Treo could do with 1.

I am thinking of getting the Q, so I am curious of anyone with a different experience than this.

Everytime I pressed the numbers to make a phone call I get a screen that says "Dial Phone" at the top, lists recent calls, and has a blue box where it says to enter name or number. In order to enter a number I have to press down the alt button before I press each number and I can't enter any letters at all. Either I'm doing something wrong or there is a setting that needs to be changed. Can anyone help?

I purchased my phone on 06/01 and everything seemed to be working fine until I noticed that when someone calls my phone and after the call is over, if I decide to save the number in my contacts, I hit SAVE and then punch in their first and last name along with the number they had called from say for ex. MOBILE and while I'm there, if I know their home and work numbers as well, I tried punching those in and it wouldn’t let me. I am only able to type in alphabets even with the ALT key selected. I called motorola and their Level 3 tech support had to help and they tried the same thing while I was on the phone with them and apparently it worked for them and said my Q was defective and go exchange it for a new one. Anyone have any comments on the thickness that the extended battery adds on the phone.

I have noticed that after I use the web the data transfer signal (the two arrows) stay on the screen like the Q is still transferring data. This happens even after I kill the program. I have to make a call then hang up to get the arrows to go away. Has anyone else noticed this?
Also AOL keeps opening on my Q under running programs. I will go in and kill it and then an hour later it has opened back up. I have it set to never check mail so it shouldn't be trying access AOL on it's own.

Any thoughts or comments? I'm just trying to conserve battery life.

I am trying to save excel and Word documents to view that were emailed to me. Is there a way to do that?

when someone calls me and i choose SAVE contact im abe to insert that particular # but when i go to add a diff for ex. home 2 or work i am not abe to input numbers even with Alt ot ALT it just tpes in letters... any clue n how to work that. i able to input diff nos. if i start as a NEW CONTACT but its so anoying not being able to do it while saving a no. when someone new calls please helped

I just checked my memory manager and noticed that 1/2 of my RAM is full, as well as about 40% of my "Device Memory".

I still have a good amount of Storage Card Memory - but that won't help me when it comes to phone apps.

I don't know how it got so full since I haven't added much to the phone in terms of apps or internal docs. I'm thinking maybe it's e-mail attachments or web-history (cookies / temp internet files)

I'm pretty sure I saw some options for clearing internet history and cookies.
Does anybody have a good recommendation for how often to do this - or a way to check to see if that's what's taking up most of my used memory?

Also - what's the best way to clear these?

Is Speed-Dial "1" permanently tied to "Voicemail"?

I tried to re-assign it - but it doesn't seem to allow it.

I have been getting some terrible signal reception (in the middle of Manhattan). Been getting a max of 2 bars. Pretty sure that something is wrong... Is my Q defective, or is it just some setting that I messed up? I don't think that the reception was as bad 2 days ago as it is now. thx, J

My company only supports the crackberry, is there any software that exists that will mimic the BES Client so I can access the server and get my Outlook functioning?

I just got the Q for $199.99 from the V710 exchange site without a data plan ("pay as you go"). I was going to get a RAZR but I liked the idea of the better PDA features on this phone with BT activesync. I don't really want to pay $44.99/month for data but someone said the phone will automatically try to connect and cause unintentional data charges. Is there a way to set up the phone to not check for e-mails automatically so if I wanted to check e-mails a couple of times a month, I wouldn't be paying much? They told me the "pay as you go" is a 1.5 cent charge per minute on top of your regular minute usage which would be included for data checks on nights and weekends. Is this not true?

Could someone please post how to most efficiently get downloaded third party software loaded on my Q via Active Sync. I do not like to download directly from the web to my phone. Thanks.

Is there a way I can customize the home screen of the phone. I know there is like 4 different loaded options in the phone, but they all suck. Is there a way to edit them on a computer and put them back, or create a new one. I would like to add buttons. Recent calls, shortcuts.
