LG VX-8300

Just got back from Verizon and really wanted the 8300, but the salesperson there is not a way to sync your outlook contacts to an 8300, so I had to go with the Razor.

Is this correct????? I would love to return the razor and get the 8300. I currently have the Moto V710 and I use the Mobil Office Kit to update my phone with my contacts which helps me grealtly. Any help would be appreciated.

This was stated in the post below me. I wanted to upgrade to this phone (I have the 8100) but if thats really all it offers I wouldn't. Is there any other reason to upgrade to the 8300.

One feature I liked on my last two phones was the ability to assign a 2-9 speed dial for an email or txt msg address. This helps a ton if you txt msg a lot.

I cannot figure out how to do this on the 8300. Anyone done it?

I've read that this phone has VZ-Navigator however I have this phone and I dont have it??? Does anyone have VZ Navigator on 8300?? If not, can I get a flash update??

Also, my 8300 does not have VZW Tones Deluxe... can I get this through a flash update as well??

what format do videos need to be so that when I save them in the my_flix folder on my card the phone will recognize it when I open that folder????

So , yes I have adopted the 8300 as one of my favorites now for a few weeks.

We have 4 of them in the group of friends and we all are experiencing this call drop issue.

It's happening enough to make this phone a real problem.

What is happening , is when the phone is ringing and you press send every once in a while , the call just drops. The other person sometimes is connected and can supposedly hear me but there is no one there and it drops.

It's a weird one and anyone with heavy usage is bound to see this.

Who has seen this happen so far ?

By the way, on all our other phones we have never seen this here ever..

What to do ??

When I try to access mobile web, I get a message that says "Network Unavailable, Retry Later". But if I put the phone in "1x Only" mode using the service menu it connects okay. Has anyone else had this problem? I removed the battery and did a *228 update but it still doesn't connect when in the normal 1x/EVDO mode.

I don't have mobile web on my account but I think I should be able to at least connect to the account info because I think that's free.

Does anyone know if mobile web is included in the vcast subscription? I am currently in the 30-day free trial of vcast.

A friend of mine and I went to the Verizon store today. He ended up buying the Motorola Q (which is a very cool looking phone btw). I was talking to a sales rep about the 8300 and he said that the reason the 8300 is selling for $49 is b/c Verizon sold out of the 8100s so fast that they had to put the 8300 out at the very same price.......

That doesn't really make sense to me, BUT who knows. Maybe he was telling the truth, or he could just be blowing smoke up my !@# to get a sale.

What do you guys think?

Can you do DUN with USB cable (or BT) to your ISP?

Not full OBEX. For Vcards only.
Bluetooth DUN is present, for the tethered EVDO product now available.
Flash interface is 2 themes built in (callled Pulse and Silver Spin). No evidence that there will be the ability to add more by any means, though I do assume a Get It Now app is likely.
No internal mention of A2DP for bluetooth music playback. There are internal docs on the moto wrap around bluetooth stereo headset coming soon though... (maybe for the vcast music RAZR)
LG switched to T-Flash... woowoo...

I just bought the phone, and it hasn't come yet... but I gotta say, you guys act like this is a totally new phone. It improves just a few things, and the reason why I got mine was because I do one year contracts and my 8100 screen is cracked and its FAT! Honestly.... I am buying the new one just because its skinnier. Are you guys really buying this phone just so you can listen to music wirelessly? Thats lame, cause it takes forever to upload the music, it doesn't have iTunes, the battery life SUCKS with the mp3 player on. Gosh, get an iPod you guys, and if you hate the size, get a nano.

Lemme just say you guys need to go to Japan. Then you'll finally be satisfied with your cell phone.

In the past I have had 2 year agreements but was allowed to upgrade after 10-12 months. But this year they were really hardass about this and flatly refused after speaking to the manager in 3 stores. I was told I had to wait till December or pay full price $250. So I went to the verizon website and clicked to upgrade and voila they allowed it and the $50 rebate was immediate so with the 12 month plan (no more 24 months for me) I paid $100 with free fedex. Also I am n ow eligible for a new phone in April 07. And by the way I love this phone. LG really makes the best phones. This is my 5th LG phone. My last was the VX8000 nice but big. So if Verizon gives you a hard time about upgrading check online.

I found the following on another phone review site. Can anyone corroborate or negate it? I don't often need EV-DO...

"I just found this out the other day when browsing the hidden service menu - you can set your phone to receive Digital Only Hybrid, Digital Only Non Hybrid, HDR Only, or 1X Only.

To get to this setting you have to go to the menu (press OK at main screen)>press 0 seven times>go to network select (3)>Mode Preference (1)> then you can select the options...

Digital Only Hybrid - 1X Digital & EVDO
Digital Only Non Hybrid - EVDO only "Not supported' (when trying to make a call)
HDR Only - EVDO (?) - "Voice mode not available"
1X Only - 1X Digital (only voice?)

Picking 1X gives you bigger signal bars and I assume...

I had both the E815 and the LG 8300 with me on a road trip of 300 miles here in Minnesota. The signal strength of the E815 was significantly greater than that of the 8300 80% of the time. So, if you're looking for reception, the E815 is the way to go. Period

I wanna get this thing but doesn't it look kind of BIG? I don't want to look dorky. What does everyone think?

so ive been making and sending my own ringtones to my new 8300 but they sound like crap. they are muffled and scratchy at times. it sounds like it would be turned up to loud. but the thing that throws me off is the 'i love lucy' theme song sounds super clear! all ringtones that i make at 128 kb and about 35 seconds long.

i dont get it.

also songs on my mp3 player sound really good too...just ringtones

Can you set a flix as your background like the 8100?

I use SUPER to convert my movies to 3g2 to put them on my phone, however I do not have a microSD yet (it is in the mail) and I have some movies that are wide screen (16:9) and i was wandering if there was a way that I can get that cropped to fullscreen? Because the phone's screen is already small enough and I don't need the black bars on the top and bottom to make the movie even smaller.
It does not matter whether I have to crop as the original (avi or mpg) or the 3g2 i make.
And what is the maximum length/filesize (i am getting a 1GB microSD card) you can play a movie back on the VX8300?
